10 Tips For Throwing Kid’s Birthday Bash On A Budget
#1 – Digital Invitations We live in such a technologically advanced day and age, and in the age of Facebook, Twitter and Myspace, inviting people to events have never been easier! Nearly all social networking websites these days have event creation options, where you then have the option to invite your friends. Other websites like e-Vite and Paperless Post offer a wide array of elegant online invitations for any type of party! This way, you’ll be saving money on postage and invitations, not to mention it helps the environment, too!
#2 – Forego The Bounce House While these bouncy abodes can be fun, they are just simply way to expensive to rent, just for one day. Not to mention that they’ve made the news lately, too. Instead, come up with exciting games and fun activities for the little ones to do. If your children are older, why not have the kids make some cool crafts to take home with them? The blog Pint Sized Treasures recommends a great list of activities including balloon stomp, where a balloon is tied to each child’s ankle, and they have to pop each other’s. Last one standing with an un-popped balloon wins!
#3 – Make The Cake You don’t have to spend astronomical amounts of money on a cake that will just end up being destroyed anyway. Forego the fancy sugar flowers and edible pearls and make the cake at home. Many people often prefer the taste of a homemade cake, anyway. A simple box cake will do the trick, and the best part is that you can decorate it however you wish. Perhaps you can even enlist the kids’ help, too!
#4 – Plan Ahead It is wise to write down everything you think of for the party. Write down your ideas as far as decorations, where you are having it, the potential guest list, food ideas, etc. This way, at the last minute, you won’t be rushing around trying to figure everything out, and you will have a clear and concise list of what you need right in front of you.
#5 – Venue Variety Nothing says that the party has to be hosted in the conference room of a hotel, or a fancy garden outdoors. Try scouting out your local playgrounds and parks. Many will have a pavilion of some sort where parties can be hosted. If you go this route, make barbecue part of the menu, grills are usually readily available. Plus, with the park, the kids will have plenty of space to burn off all of the sugar they’ll be ingesting! You can usually find information about your local parks online at your town’s website, or even at your local municipal building.
#6 – Create The Space Instead of heading out to the local party store, why not try to make some party decorations at home? The kids will love making paper-chain garland and streamers, drawing pictures for the birthday boy or girl, and even putting together a banner! Life As Mom shares a detailed tutorial on how to make a pinata at home, driving costs way down and adding an extra activity to the party itinerary! You can easily grab plenty of candy at your local dollar store to fill it with!
#7 – Breakin’ Down The Budget Be certain that you have a set budget and hold firm to it. Allot a certain amount of money for food, decorations, party supplies, etc. It is incredibly easy to host a party on a budget, and once you get the hang of it, you’ll be helping your friends and family plan parties on pennies, too!
#8 – Pick A Potluck One surefire way to cut costs for the party is food. Ask your guest of honor what kinds of food they would like to have, and once you have a basic idea, contact family and friends and let them know that it is a potluck, and they can bring their favorite dish. You can put together the guest of honor’s meal, and everyone will enjoy a delicious sampling of all kinds of foods, and you won’t go over budget!
#9 – Favors Head on over to your local dollar store and peruse the selection of items that they have. They are bound to have a small toy section, where you can easily score a bunch of quick and easy favors for the kids. While you are there, you should also be able to find goody bags or treat sacks that these items can go in. It’s quick, inexpensive, and easy!
#10 – Internet Inspiration The world wide web is just teeming with plenty of inspiration. Gone are the days of party planners! If you are looking for party ideas or themes, or anything your heart desires, try searching Google, or even checking out Pinterest or WeHeartIt for some great party inspiration! You can keep all your ideas in one place!
