Coconut, Honey And Aloe Moisturising Hair Mask
posted in Hair on 11/3/2015
Keeping hair moisturised is very important in maintaining healthy hair (especially if you have long, thick, curly/frizzy hair!)
I do this mask once a week and it helps keep my hair moisturised, shiny and manageable :) it is very easy to make and use as it only has 3 ingredients and doesn't go really runny like some hair treatments!

Firstly you will need 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil (depending on hair length - my hair comes halfway down my back and I use two)

Secondly you will need 1/2-1 tablespoons of honey (again the amount you need will depend on the length of your hair - I used 1 tablespoon)

And thirdly you will need 1-2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel. Use good quality gel, not the horrible refined/chemical filled stuff. I always buy one that is at least 99% pure aloe vera gel. Again amount will depend on your hair length - I used 2 tablespoons.
Mix these three ingredients together thoroughly in a small bowl :)
Now it's time to get ready to apply the mask.
Your hair should be dry but does not need to be freshly washed (you'll be washing it straight after the treatment anyway).
I always apply mine in the bathroom and wear and old shirt or have an old towel around my shoulders so I don't get oil all over a good shirt :)
Now when I apply I put my hair up in a ponytail and only apply the mixture to the hair that is in the ponytail - not the roots or scalp. This is because the oil is harder to wash out of the roots and you can be left with oily looking roots/scalp.
Okay, so once your hair is in a ponytail apply the mixture from the ponytail all the way through to the ends evenly and thoroughly.
Don't use too much! If there is too much oil coating your hair it can't absorb it properly!
Your hair should look wet and feel oily all the way to the ends but should not be dripping!
After applying all the mixture, twirl hair into a bun and leave on for at least 30 minutes - upto two hours total.
Now it's time to rinse. I break this down into 6 steps to ensure the mixture is rinsed thoroughly and my hair isn't left feeling oily. Take your hair out of the bun first :)
1. In the shower, rinse as much mixture out as you can just with the hot running water. I also use a comb and comb my hair through while rinsing.
2. Shampoo thoroughly concentrating on the roots-mid lengths . (This is because it's okay to have a little oily residue left on the ends as it will moisturise the hair - but you don't want and oil left on the roots) Rinse.
3. Shampoo again. This time concentrate on all your hair.
4. Comb through hair again and then apply a small amount of conditioner to just the mid-lengths and ends of your hair. Comb hair with conditioner in.
5. Rinse conditioner out vey thoroughly under the warm water.
6. Turn the hot down so that the water is quite cool ( as cold as you can stand it! ) and do a final rinse of all your hair with cold water. This helps to seal the hair shaft and prevent moisture loss and frizziness :)
After your shower very gently dry off excess water then comb your hair through with a wide toothed comb and allow to dry naturally.
Enjoy your healthy and shiny hair! :)
