I think we all tend to associate Halloween with candy and other sugary treats but who says healthy can’t still be fun?

Cheese Witch’s Brooms
Cheese Witch’s Brooms
What do you need? - 12 Slices of Cheese - 12 Pretzel sticks - 12 Fresh Chive How do you do it? 1.- Fold each cheese slice and cut the fringes of the broom using a pair of scissors. 2.- Roll the slice of cheese around a snack stick having the fringes looking down. 3.- Finally to keep the cheese around the stick, use some chive and knot it around. It’s easy, isn’t it? So, don’t hesitate. Surprise your friend is your Halloween party with the Cheese Witch’s Brooms.

8 small navel oranges 1 small apple, chopped 1/2 cup halved seedless red grapes Slivered almonds and whole cloves Choose which side of each orange will be the jack-o'-lantern's face; cut a thin slice from the bottom of each so that it rests flat. Cut another small slice from the top. Spoon out pulp. Chop pulp and combine with apple and grapes; set aside. Cut faces as desired; decorate with cloves and almonds. Spoon fruit mixture into jack-o'-lanterns.
Monster sandwiches
Monster sandwiches
Bread Olives Lunch meat Cheese slices Toothpicks A round cookie cutter or a glass and a knife First, take a cookie cutter and cut the center out of your bread slices. Don't have a round cookie cutter on hand? No problem, do what I did and turn a glass turned upside down and use a knife to cut around the edges.
Next, put your choice of fillings inside (I went with ham and turkey lunch meat) and any other condiments you think your guests would like. To make the teeth, simply cut jagged edges around half of a slice of cheese and insert the cheese inside the sandwich on the bottom. Make the eyes by snapping a toothpick in half, and inserting each half into an olive. Stick the olives in the top of your sandwich.
Frozen Banana Mummies and Hairy Creature Things
Frozen Banana Mummies and Hairy Creature Things
3 large BANANAS 3 tablespoons gently melted, food grade COCOA BUTTER 3 tablespoons powdered COCONUT SUGAR (it's low glycemic and so easy to make it) CANDY EYES, "safe" chocolate chips, currants or raisins
Have the kids peel and slice (butter knife it) the bananas into 1-1/2" chunks. Skewer bananas with lollipop sticks (available at most craft stores), or use kabob skewers cut in half using wire cutters as I did. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze. For the candy coating; in a small bowl, mix the melted cocoa butter with the powdered sugar.
Spoon a little drop of candy coating on a frozen banana and stick on an eye (or two, or three). Using a spoon, have the kids drizzle candy coating over the bananas in all directions, avoiding the eye. An egg carton turned upside down with little holes poked in the bottom made a good stand as we worked on them.
For the "Things"; We made the orange shredded coconut by mixing a few drops of yellow and a drop of red India Tree Liquid Natural Decorating Colors with some unsweetened shredded coconut. We opted to toast the coconut for a few minutes. Voila, colored sprinkles. To assemble the "Things": Attach eyes with a dot of candy coating. Drizzle candy coating on to coat front, avoiding eye(s). Sprinkle with coconut. Drizzle to coat back. Sprinkle again. Drizzle to coat top. Sprinkle again. You gotta work in stages as the candy coat hardens real quick on the frozen bananas.
Spooky Spider Snack
Spooky Spider Snack
1 plum, 12 pretzel sticks, edible eyes, and a big hand full of dark grapes.
We poked 3 holes on each side of the plum with a knife. Take 6 pretzel sticks and push them into the holes. Poke a hole on the ends of the grapes and slide them onto the pretzel sticks leaving just a bit of the pretzel showing. Fill up the other pretzel sticks with grapes and poke a hole on the end grape with the kitchen knife. Press that onto the end of the pretzel that is showing. Stick on the edible eyes with cream cheese (you could use peanut butter) and that's it!
Carrot-Finger Food
Carrot-Finger Food
vegetable dip 4 long carrots 1 medium carrot softened cream cheese sliced-almond baby carrots To prepare them, just fill a serving bowl with your favorite vegetable dip. Wash and peel 4 long carrots for fingers and 1 medium carrot for a thumb. With a paring knife (a parent’s job), cut a flat, shallow notch in the tip of each carrot. Then use a dab of dip or softened cream cheese to glue a sliced-almond fingernail atop each notch. Stick the fingers in the dip, as shown, and serve with plenty of peeled baby carrots for dipping.
