So your thinking about buying a Hedgehog, or have already bought one. Here are a few tips on how to take care of them.

Cage -
Even though your hedgehog might be a little guy you need to buy him/her a big enough cage to run around in. This doesn't mean you have to go buy an expensive cage a laundry hamper will also do just fine!

Food -
Your Hedgehog needs a healthy diet in order to maintain a proper weight. Cat food is normally the ideal choice, if you go with this make sure that the protein levels are at least 35% and up. Also try to steer clear of Fats and starches. Also make sure to read on things they can't eat.

Exercise -
This is important for all mammals, make sure your Hedgehog gets the proper exercise he\she needs. A wheel or a travel ball works pretty well. Steer clear of wheels that have slits or made from wire if the hedgey's leg gets caught it can easily be broken.

Rest-
Hedgehogs are nocturnal which means they pretty much sleep all day. In order to feel secure make sure your hedgehog has a proper house to burrow in during the day. Also keep temp. Up to 75-85 degrees or else your hedgehog might go into hibernation. Not good!

Grooming -
Make sure when you bathe your hedgehog it's in room temp. water. You can use an old toothbrush to comb over their quills just be gentle. They also need to maintain trimmed nails which means when they get too long you need to clip them. This can be done with human nail clippers.

Happy Relationship-
Make sure your hedgehog has all of the previous pages. Hold him/her for about 30 minutes everyday. If your hedgehog is aggressive try using a shirt or gloves to hold them at first. You can also train them by giving them a treat when being held so they know it's a good thing.

Tips-
They can be litter trained! Buy them a box or make one and use paper bedding.
Put an old T-Shirt in their cage after wearing it all day, helps them get use to your scent.
Put a toilet paper role in their cage as a toy they'll go nuts! And they are super cute when they burrow into them!
