Tequila 101

posted in Wine & Spirits on 7/7/2014
There are 3 stages of tequila, based on an aging process. The beat tequilas are pure agave. Mixto tequilas like jose cuervo (yuck!) are blends of different ages and use sugar which is why so many people get sick! Good tequila should never be chilled! Most spanish people do NOT use lime and salt, its super gross and makes it taste awful. If you must use something though, you can put cinnamon on an orange and bite on it after your shot. Much tastier and authentic to the culture of tequila drinking!

Blancos are the shorteat aged and tend to be a bit harsher. My fave is Milagro, smoother and doesnt break the bank!

The best Reposado hands down is Espolon! Smooth, under 30 bucks and you cant beat their badass labels.

My favorite Anejo is from Avion. Its a bit pricier usually around 50 bucks a btl but soooo worth every penny. Almost has hints of caramel warmness. Great for sipping in a fancy snifter.
