Top 7 Pantry Must-Haves

A well-stocked pantry can make a meal a breeze to prepare.
These are our top pantry must-haves:
1. Canned tomatoes - if you have these, you'll always have the makings of a satisfying dinner that is easy to get on the table. Italian San Marizano tomatoes are the ultimate canned tomato for authentic pasta sauces. You can also use canned tomatoes in soups and stews.
2. Canned kidney beans and chickpeas - beans are great to throw on top of a green salad for an easy protein source and to add to curries to make the servings go further. One of our favourite fast and easy chickpea solutions is hummus.
3. Garlic and onions - they are the start to almost every meal. Store onions and garlic in a cool dark place. For most of us that means the bottom shelf in the pantry. It's not a good idea to store them under the sink because of all the temperature fluctuations from the hot and cold water.
4. Pasta or rice - these are the staples of a great dinner in no time. Both are versatile - pasta as a main meal or side and rice as a side, with stir fries, stews, or chillies.
5. Tuna - if you've got a can of tuna, you've got sandwiches, a healthy salad or a tuna casserole.
6. Italian seasoning - it's already perfectly blended and ready to use on roasted or grilled veggies, eggs, sauces or pasta.
7. Montreal Steak Spice - it's not only great for steaks but also for burgers and, believe it or not, salmon and chicken too.
