Jarred pasta sauce can be bland and boring. Save time by simply adding herbs and spices  to make a delicious homemade-tasting tomato sauce!
Jarred pasta sauce can be bland and boring. Save time by simply adding herbs and spices to make a delicious homemade-tasting tomato sauce!
1) Finely chop up your chosen veggies and sauté in olive oil until soft before pouring in the sauce: - Onion - Fresh garlic - Mushrooms - Green or red bell pepper - Zucchini - Diced tomato - Shredded carrot - Spinach - or Celery
2) Meat for flavour, protein and texture: - Ground beef - Ground turkey - Italian sausage - Shredded chicken Cook in a separate pan and add to veggies before you pour in the sauce. You can skip this if you wish.
3) Mix in the sauce to your chosen veggies (and meat) and add any of these herbs and spices to taste: - Black pepper - Oregano - Basil - Thyme - Red pepper flakes - Garlic powder - Onion powder - Paprika - Cumin - or Coriander
4) Other add ins: - Splash of red wine - Lemon juice - Parmesan cheese - Mascarpone cheese
If you find it's too acidic, you can add 1/2 a tsp of sugar. If you find it's too bitter, a tsp of nutmeg should do the trick
5) After you've added all desired herbs and spices, bring to a boil. 6) After it's come to a boil, add half a cup of water and simmer the sauce for about 15 minutes to bring out the flavors. Stir often. 7) Serve sauce with your favourite pasta.
