Sunburn Itch Remedies
posted in Health & Fitness on 5/22/2014

So... you've enjoyed some sun, got a bit of a sunburn... and then, the sunburn itch starts. Sunburn itching is very annoying and makes it very tempting to scratch it. Don't!
The itching comes after the skin has gotten over the initial shock of getting burnt: it is still red and tender to touch but not as hot and unpleasant. After you've applied sunburn relief remedies, you might experience an itching sensation. It can also be a sign of skin getting ready to peel. Here are some skin peeling sunburn remedies.
It might be unbearable but it is a good sign: it means that the skin's top layer is renewing itself and that's a good thing.
While the body does its magic, let's see how we can get rid of that annoying itching:
Baking soda
Fill a tub with mild water and add a cup of baking soda. Baking soda returns the skin's pH to normal and acts as a great neutralizer. This bath will cool the skin down and allow for it to "breathe" a bit, lowering the temperature naturally.
Oatmeal bath
Similar to baking soda, oatmeal is a neutralizer and is awesome for sensitive and damaged skin. Pour 1/2 cup of oatmeal into a running bath, soak in a bit, and rinse off.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is used for many skin irritations and inflammations, and it is especially helpful for sunburn caused itch. It penetrates the deeper layers of the skin and helps the skin rejuvenate itself; it lowers the temperature and helps the skin cool.
Buy aloe vera gel and apply liberally on the affected area.
Baby cream?!
When a friend shared this advice, I giggled! Apply A+D baby diaper rash cream on the affected area. This cream has A and D vitamins, obviously, but can be also found with oatmeal which helps heal the skin even more.
While the skin is still recovering from sunburn, add extra moisture to your daily skin routine. You can always go with Vaseline, they now come in wonderful new scents (my favorite, cocoa butter). Also, Burt's Bees Milk and Honey lotion is great for hydrating the skin.
In between slathering yourself with aloe, taking baking soda baths, moisturizing with Vaseline, and applying baby cream, place cool chamomile tea compresses. Boil some chamomile tea, let it cool down, dip a clean cotton cloth and then apply over the affected area.
Note If you are experiencing fever, shivers, severe headache or severe blister, please see a doctor immediately.
