I have some top tips that I have learnt!

Whether you enjoy going on a jog as a daily workout; or you are a keen competitor, then follow some of these top tips and rules to achieve your running goals.
Rule #1: Pace Yourself! This especially applies to those long distance runners out there and for those of you keen on doing running as your workout. Pacing yourself gets easier as you learn and train. For some people it may be more gradual, and for others you will pick it up pretty fast; but it all also depends on how fit, able and experienced you are! What you want to do is start of at a steady and fast pace; a common myth/misconception is that you shouldn't run too fast at the beginning of your race; but you don't want to start too slow either.
Slow yourself down to a medium and steady pace towards the middle of the race; breathing steady and keep on going; however, as you go towards your last few meters that is your time to shine! Sprint all out; as fast as you can in order to win the race, be aware though that this will take up a lot of energy so eat and drink well not only before the race but also after; and be careful not to be exposed to too much heat to prevent the risk of feeling sick/nausea.

Rule #2: Breathe, breathe, breathe! Breathing may sound simple enough, but believe it or not there is a proper technique to it! Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth! This is the best way to breathe it will help you keep a steady pace. A thing that I like to think of when I'm running, also as a source of encouragement: breathe the blue skies in and the gray skies out! It may sound simple; but it actually works!
The best rhythm for most races is to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. At first, it took me some time to get adapted to the new breathing style, but it really does help keep you going, especially, I find throughout long distance races.

Rule #3: Walk, Yes! Walk! Now, you're probably reading this thinking: walk? I thought this was about running?! Well, you won't believe the benefits of walking whilst running! When working out / training something that will improve your endurance, especially for long distance runners is walking for 2 minutes or so and then running. Also, you are competing in a marathon or a long race if you get out of breath or tired, just take some deep breaths and walk for a bit! You will be surprised at the energy this gives you to keep on going!

Rule #5: Stretch Yourself! Not only should you stretch yourself to your absolute best; you should also STRETCH before your race; this is a perfect remedy for those awful stitches! Here are some stretches that you could try to help and to be prepared! -->
For your lunges; to stretch yourself that bit more, try and always keep the soul of your backwards foot on the ground to stretch your hamstrings; which will be needed for the correct running form and technique.

Rule #6: Have a Healthy Lifestyle and Prevent Stitches! Eat healthy and exercise daily! Eat plenty of fruit and veg! Consider foods like energy bars and nothing too high in caffeine! All this will help prevent those nasty stitches that we end up getting (unfortunately) all too often! 😢 In case of stitches, breath steadily (through your nose and out through your mouth)! Or walk for a bit and keep on going as a boost of energy!

Rule #7: Be Prepared! I know it sounds strange to say, but trust me: always go to the toilet before running! There is nothing worse than running with that awful feeling. 😲 Apart from that, drink at least 16 ounces of water before and AFTER your race/workout! It's important not to also forget to drink AFTER your race and of course, keep hydrated all day! It is said that you should drink at least 2 litres of water each day; however, in especially warm weather, it is even more important to hydrate yourself! Rule #8: Choose that right pair of running shoes! It may not seem that important, but choosing the right shoes are key! It's worth the money and make sure to get the correct size; get a little bigger (but not overly), to make for they last you for longer if you are still growing! 😜

Rule #9: Believe You Can Do It, Because You Can! Just remember that you can do it! You will not believe the feeling that you get after finishing a race! You will feel so proud of yourself and remember it's not just about the winning or the losing! As long as you finished the race and pulled a pair of trainers on and tried your best you truly do deserve a pat on the back! Well done! 👌😊 Here are some inspirational quotes to motivate you some more! -->

Rule #10: (Bonus) Get Family and Friends involved! When training and working out get family and friends involvolved! You'll be surprised how much this helps! Running in a group (or joining your local running club) is perfect for getting you used to competitive events and races! Make use of your surroundings! You many just want to go for a run down the road listening to your favorite songs on your iPod shuffle with some friends (a good idea) or you could even get a professional coach to help you train and stretch yourself further! Either way train with someone experienced to learn some more
